BLACK ROCK GARDEN CLUB ANNOUNCES SECOND ANNUAL GARDEN FEST AT HARBORVIEW MARKET!!
Black Rock, Bpt, Ct.: The Black Rock Garden Club is pleased to announce its Second Annual Garden Fest, to be held on Sunday, March 11th at Harborview Market. .
Four gardening experts will share their knowledge to get us ready for planning our own spring gardens. Panelists include: Pam Weil, founder and editor of “Connecticut Gardener”, Master Gardener, who has taught and lectured widely, Diana Ringelheim, Master Gardener, with a lifetime of plant addictions to both house and garden plants; Mary Jo Lent, perennial specialist and garden designer, who is the horticultural expert for Home Depot; and Jack Daley, local Black Rocker, is well known for his stupendous Square Foot garden providing wonderful vegetable yields.
The Garden Club, a two year old organization, has been a strong presence in the Black Rock community. With its mission to beautify and preserve the natural surrounding neighborhood and waterfront spaces, it also works to develop community based projects.
To date the Garden Club has contributed much to Black Rock. Thru a grant from Connecticut Urban Forest Council they have developed a Tree Planting Initiative to replace and increase tree plantings. RYASAP Block by Block grants have supported the creation of the Burroughs Community Center garden and a Butterflies as Teachers project, in conjunction with Groundworks, Bridgeport. This spring the Club will develop its Arbor Day Project at Black Rock School in conjunction with the students garden club. This has been made possible also with grants from the Block by Block RYASAP program.
We thank Rick and Michelle Torres for allowing us to meet at Harborview Market!
